The Victoria International Running Society

The Victoria International Running Society (VIRS) is a not-for-profit society that presents athletics events and supports the sport of running in Greater Victoria.

The VIRS promotes road and cross-country running, track and field events, as well as recreational activities, such as jogging and walking for health and fitness. Over the past 20 years, VIRS has hosted many events and programs in Victoria for athletes of all abilities. These programs include the TC10K, Learn to Run Clinics, Run with the Stars, Senior Nationals Track and Field Competitions, including the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Trials.

100% of the funds generated through our events are channeled back into the Victoria community to promote the development of the sport, from supporting our developing and elite athletes to encouraging growth of the sport at the grass roots and school levels.

Victoria International Track Classic

The Victoria International Track Classic is Canada’s premier International Track and Field Meet. It is more than an ordinary track meet and is comprised of a series of track and field events for secondary school and other developing athletes. As well of course, the international athletic competition.

The Track Classic is a two hour entertainment event featuring the world’s best track and field athletes. The event is built around a ‘spectator friendly’ program including a tight schedule of world class competition, professional announcers, athlete interviews, an active score board, spectator participation and music. The finish line is position in front of the main grandstand so that all the spectators can view the action from a prime vantage point.
